Learning Log 7

For the Romeo & Juliet performance, I think that I did ok, though I could have been fiercer playing as Tybalt. For the group, I think they co-ordinated well during the performance and we did quite well. No one forgot their lines or did something wrong and everyone got their mood right. Although there were problems about rehearsals and costumes. Sometimes, our members could not make it for rehearsals but everyone try their best to come for rehearsals and made the best out of it, even if it means coming after their CCAs and staying late into the evening to rehearse. Everyone co-operated to get their costumes right also. All the members contributed to the opinions of the props we were gonna use too. Everyone has put their heart and soul into the performance and each and everyone of us had contributed something. Some even gave up family outings and gatherings for this, so it is a really big sacrifice. Everyone also helped do the huge backdrop. But there were crisises before the performance. We almost had no time to decorate the chairs and table, our backdrop collapsed halfway through another group's show but we managed to fixed it in time before it was our turn to perform. But our director, Dawn, was so nervous she was in tears before the performance. Everyone went out to take a breather and calm ourselves before the performance and we managed to pull through. We spent over ten hours just for ten minutes of that performance but it was all worth it. I strongly recommend this to the next few batches as they can learn a lot from this although it may require a lot of work. Through this, you can not only understand literature better, you also get to bond with your friends and have fun while rehearsing. It was a tiring process but I enjoyed it because I went through it with my friends.

Learning Log 6

In the literature lessons, I have learnt many new literary devices and have revised a few of the ones we learnt last year. The literary devices can be classified into 3 categories, imagery and figurativve language, sound devices and diction and sentence structures. For the imagery and figurative language, we have learnt literary devices such as simile, metaphor and personification, ones we learnt last year. But also new literary devices such as kinestethic, gustatory, tactile, symbol and so on. For the sound devices, we have literary devices such as tone, rhythm, rhyme, alliteration and so on. Finally for diction and sentence structures, we have learnt literary devices such as oxymorons, paradox, hyperbole, connotation and so on. We have also learnt the meanings of the literary devices and some examples of it in a sentence. Most importantly, we have learnt how the poets and persona make use of all these literary devices in a poem and this also helps us to analyse and understand the poem better.

LEARNING LOG 5

After reading the unseen booklet, I have learnt various ways of answering questions in the literature examinations. We should approach an unseen poem like any other poem. Read the poem twice and with feelings and let our imagination flow. This helps us to understand the poem better. Make short but clear notes on the margins of the poem. Ask yourselves a few questions such as "Who is doing the speaking in the poem?", "When was the poem written?" and so on. Never rush through to answer the questions, otherwise we will answer what we want to write rather than what the question is asking for. There are also various ways of answering questions such as explaining, describing in our own words, comment, give evidence, compare and/or contrast or giving opinions. I have also learnt ways to organize our answers such as using the IBC model which is "Introduction, body and conclusion". There is also the PEEL model which is "Point, explain or elaborate, evidence and link". The evidence to quote depends on which is easier and more interesting to read. The ABCs in quoting are attention, brief and context.

Learning Log 4

LEARNING LOG 4 I felt that the Macbeth performance was a great experience me because I got a chance to have a deeper understanding of drama. It is not just all acting and nothing else, instead, it involves a lot of planning, making of props and most importantly, good co-ordination. Drama is also one of the ways for some people to realise their full potential. For example, some people may think they cannot act very well but instead they may had outdone themselves that day. Most importantly, drama is a good way to express yourself. You may be shy and quiet in class but during the performance, people may think that you are not just as quiet as you are in class because you are expressing yourself using your emotions. Finally, the Macbeth performance was a good chance to relax and just enjoy it while it lasts. I was nervous at first but as my group acted, I felt that I enjoying until it ended as soon as it started. Acting out a play is really useful to overcome your fears such as stage-fright. I really enjoyed this performance and I am looking forward to the "Romeo and Juliet" play and plays in the future.

Learning Log 3

Learning Log 3

During Literature lesson on Monday,we once again got to work in groups and present our work as well. It was about superstitions again but this time,we got to write a short story about when a prediction came true and what was our feeling then. It's nice to write a short story like that because if we really don't have a story to write,we could set our creativity loose and make up silly and intersting stories to capture the class' attention. Also, it is good to have group work and interact with different group members everytime. Like this, we can build up sturdy relationships and co-operation within the class. It is also a good time to know more about your classmates. Overall, I have truly enjoyed every single Literature lesson until now, because the class is lightened up by silly stories, groupwork and watching videos. It is learning and having fun at the same time, killing two birds with one stone.

I felt that the superstitions lesson was really fun because once again we got to do group discussion and also presented our work in front of everyone else. The whole class got to know about more superstitions that they did not know before and everyone could share what they know. It was interactive and overall I really enjoyed the whole lesson and look forward to literature lessons like this through the entire year. It could be improved with sheraids. For example, one person would be called out to stand outside the classroom and another person would be called out to write a superstition on the board for the whole class to see. Then after the class has gotten it, the person would be allowed to come in and the person who wrote the superstition would have to act it out and the class would give the guesser clues. This would allow the guesser to test his superstitions knowledge. Also, we got to learn why Shakespeare chose to use three witches in his play, "Macbeth". Witches are often dressed in black and they always remind us of curses and spells. This could be linked back to the superstitions lesson and we can infer that Shakespeare believes in bad luck. We got to learn two topics in 1 lesson which was almost like killing two birds with one stone. Finally, we got to act out act 1, scene 1 in the play "Macbeth" which allowed us to experience how it is like acting in front of an audience and how to capture their attention.

I have learnt a lot in the lessons of cinquains such as its origin and the format of the
poem. Cinquain is really special because you can play around with it, part of it can be solemn, another humorous. Also, it can express how you feel. The lesson was very
fun and interesting. There was group work where we got to show our works and
make others laugh, and also develop teamwork between the group members. So
overall, I really enjoyed the lesson and I look forward to this kind of literature lessons
in future like more group works because we can interact with classmates. It can be
improved with games. For example, a person can start a poem and the others must
continue the poem. There are 5 lines in one poem altogether so every 5 people, there will be 1 poem finished.
